Hitters Top Prospect Camp set for Nov. 4 and 5

Milwaukee Brewers bullpen catcher Marcus Hanel speaks to catchers at the 2015 Top Prospect Camp (Spencer Flaten/Wisconsin Baseball Central).

The 19th annual Hitters Baseball Top Prospect Instructional Camp takes place on November 4 and 5 at the Hitters training center in Caledonia this fall. The showcase is a premier offseason exposure event in the Midwest attended by several colleges and universities from around the country.

The camp is open to players in the classes of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Staff from schools such as Louisville, Michigan, Illinois, Creighton, Illinois State, St. Louis, Bradley, Indiana and UW-Milwaukee, among others, will attend to scout prospects from the Badger State. In total, there will be over 20 colleges in attendance.

The first day of the camp will be purely instruction centered. Attendees will learn from college coaches and scouts about several aspects of the game, from hitting, fielding and weightlifting to recruiting. Catchers will have the chance to learn from Milwaukee Brewers bullpen catcher Marcus Hanel.

Players will participate in pro-style workouts on the second day of the camp. They’ll do defensive drills for their respective positions and take batting practice, among other workouts on Hitters' full size indoor infield. Pitchers will have pitching sessions with radar guns on them. All of these drills will be an opportunity to show coaches at the next level what you can do from right in front of their eyes.

Additionally, players in attendance have the opportunity to be identified for the 2018 Area Code Games tryouts. The Area Code Games are an elite tournament in California at the end of the summer featuring the best high school talent in the country. Several Wisconsinites played in the 2017 Games.

Previous participants in the Top Prospect Camp have gone on to do great things. There have been several Hitters alumni selected straight out of high school in the MLB Draft lately, including Gavin Lux (2016 first round), Ben Rortvedt (2016 second round), and Ryan Hoerter (2017 40th round). Many have been selected out of college as well, including Milwaukee’s 2016 first round pick Corey Ray.

It costs $300 to attend the camp as either a position player or pitcher/catcher—or $500 to participate as both. All campers will receive a t-shirt for attending. For further information, click here.
