WIAA Summer Baseball Week 4 Power Rankings

Each Sunday during the season, we will release power rankings of the top 10 teams in Wisconsin. Our power rankings are selected by Wisconsin Baseball Central staff based on a number of factors, including record, strength of schedule, and overall team performance. Our week four power rankings are below.

Honorable Mentions

Brookfield Central (12-7)

Kettle Moraine (13-8)

Plymouth (16-3)

Waukesha North (13-7)

Nicolet (11-7)

10. Pewaukee

Last week: Honorable mention

The Pirates are 15-7 this summer after going 4-1 last week. Freshman Travis Bentley tossed a shutout against Waukesha South on Friday, lowering his season ERA to 1.41. Solid pitching has been a common theme for Pewaukee this year. They’ll need their staff at its best when they square off with No. 7 Greendale this Thursday, as the two teams are tied for first place in the Woodland West Conference. The Pirates also have games against Pius XI and South Milwaukee.

9. New Holstein

Last week: 9

The Huskies went 4-0 last week, pushing their record to 13-3 this season. They swept Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah and also beat Oostburg and Sheboygan Falls. They have a crucial game against Plymouth (honorable mention) coming up on Monday that will have big implications on the conference title race. New Holstein beat Plymouth 4-3 earlier in June. They also have games against Oostburg, Kohler/Sheboygan Christian, Howards Grove and Cedarburg this week.

8. West Bend East

Last week: 5

The Suns brought their season record to 15-4 with a 2-1 week. They beat Grafton and Nicolet (honorable mention), but fell at the hands of No. 4 Germantown. The loss completed a season sweep for the Warhawks. If the Suns want to make up some ground in the North Shore Conference title race, they could really use a positive result in Tuesday’s matchup with No. 1 West Bend West. East gave the Spartans their toughest game of the year earlier in June.

7. Greendale

Last week: 7

The Panthers went 5-0 last week and their record now sits at 14-4. The highlight of their week was a sweep of Pius XI in conference play. They have five games scheduled for this week, but two stand out: contests against No. 1 West Bend West and No. 10 Pewaukee.

6. Franklin

Last week: 3

It was a tough week for the Sabers, who went just 1-3 in four games. They lost twice to No. 5 Menomonee Falls, and once to No. 3 Marquette. They’re now 13-4 this season. They’ll get the chance to bounce back this week with games against Brookfield Central (honorable mention), Wauwatosa East, Nicolet (honorable mention), Brookfield East and Cudahy.

5. Menomonee Falls

Last week: 6

The Indians had an interesting week that saw them go 4-3 to leave their record at 14-7. They swept two games from No. 6 Franklin, but lost to No. 2 Oak Creek and No. 3 Marquette. They don’t have any games against top 10 teams this week. They’ll face West Allis Central, Brookfield Central (honorable mention), Wauwatosa East, Brookfield East and New Berlin Eisenhower over the next seven days.

4. Germantown

Last week: 4

The Warhawks are 19-4 this summer after going 3-1 last week. They beat No. 8 West Bend East, but got crushed by No. 1 West Bend West. They’re now in second place of the North Shore Conference, a game ahead of East but still behind West. They have games against Whitefish Bay, Homestead, Port Washington and Cedarburg scheduled for this week.

3. Marquette University

Last week: 8

The Hilltoppers make a big move into the top three after going 6-0 last week, scoring some wins over ranked teams. Most notably, they defeated both No. 5 Menomonee Falls and No. 6 Franklin. Their record is 17-5 this year. After coming out of that tough stretch of games unscathed, things should be easier this week. They’ll face Wauwatosa East, Brookfield East, Sussex Hamilton and West Allis Hale.

2. Oak Creek

Last week: 2

The Knights lost their first two games of the season last week. Their record is now 18-2 this season. They dropped games to Brookfield East and Nicolet, but beat No. 5 Menomonee Falls and Kettle Moraine (honorable mention). They won’t have quite as difficult a week coming up, at least on paper. They have games against Sussex Hamilton, West Allis Central, West Allis Hale and Brookfield Central (honorable mention).

1. West Bend West

Last week: 1

Another week, another slew of games in which the Spartans ran rampant over their opponents. They went 3-0 last week to extend their overall record to 19-0 this summer. The highlights of the week were an 18-2 pounding of No. 4 Germantown and a 10-0 victory over Nicolet, who isan honorable mention in this week’s rankings. We’ll see if the teams they’ve got schedule this week can do any better. They have games against Grafton, Cedarburg, Kewaskum, No. 7 Greendale and No. 8 West Bend East. East gave the Spartans a tough 1-0 game in their last matchup.
