Week 6 Power Rankings

Each Sunday during the season, we will release power rankings of the top 15 teams in Wisconsin. Our power rankings are selected by Wisconsin Baseball Central staff based on a number of factors, including record, strength of schedule, and overall team performance. Teams are ranked regardless of what Division they are in. Our week six power rankings are below. Our top five teams in each Division are at the bottom of the page.

Last week: Honorable mention

The Panthers enter the top 15 for the first time this season with a 15-2 record. They’re currently on an eight game win streak, with their last loss coming on April 18. They’ve beaten some top teams along the way. They’re the only team this season that has beaten Prairie du Chien (honorable mention this week). They have games against Sparta, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau and Osseo-Fairchild this week.

14. Antigo

Last week: Honorable mention

The Red Robins make their top 15 debut this week with an 18-2 record. They’ve won 17 games in a row, and one of their two losses this year was against No. 5 Sun Prairie. Despite being a Division 2 team, they have beaten several Division 1 teams this year, including Stevens Point, Merrill, Holmen, Appleton West and Marshfield. They also have wins over good Division 2 teams such as Waupaca, who is 13-4 this year. Antigo has two games this week. They face Rhinelander on Tuesday and Mosinee on Thursday.

13. Kimberly

Last week: 11

The Papermakers went 2-1 last week, pushing their record to 11-6 (10-4 in Wisconsin) this spring. They dropped a game to Oshkosh North but bounced back with wins over Appleton East and Kaukauna. The race to the Fox Valley Association is close, with a handful of teams still in the running. Kimberly has four games scheduled this week: two against Oshkosh West (honorable mention this week), one against Fond du Lac and one against Appleton West.

12. Eau Claire Memorial

Last week: Honorable mention

The Old Abes return to the top 15 with a 16-4 record this season. They went 3-1 last week, splitting a series with Hudson and sweeping Superior. They still have an outside chance at winning the Big Rivers Conference, but they can’t afford to lose another game if they’re going to do it. That means they would need to sweep their two game series against No. 1 Eau Claire North this week. Easier said than done. They also have a nonconference game against Onalaska on Saturday.

11. Wausau West

Last week: 8

The Warriors moved to 13-4 (12-2 in Wisconsin) this season by going 3-2 last week. They split a series with Stevens Point, beat Wausau East twice, and fell to No. 1 Eau Claire North. They have a sizable lead atop the Wisconsin Valley Conference. They’ve only got one game this week against Merrill.

10. Catholic Memorial

Last week: 14

The Crusaders are 15-2 this spring after going 5-0 last week. They beat Racine Lutheran/Prairie, Milwaukee Lutheran (twice), No. 8 Oconomowoc and St. Thomas More. They’re in first place of the Wisconsin Little Ten by half a game. They have three conference games this week: one against Hartford and two against Slinger. Then they’ll be primed for two games against Arrowhead next week which could be the decider for the conference title.

9. Beloit Turner

Last week: 9

The Trojans are 19-2 this season following last week’s 3-1 showing. They swept Clinton and split a doubleheader with River Valley. They remain our top-ranked team in Division 2 on the merit of their win over No. 10 Catholic Memorial earlier in the season. They have two games against Brodhead/Juda this week, as well as a weekend battle with Badger.

8. Oconomowoc

Last week: 7

The Raccoons posted a 4-1 record last week, putting them at 15-4 overall this year. They swept Watertown, lost to No. 10 Catholic Memorial, and swept Madison Memorial. They’re still in the hunt for the Wisconsin Little Ten along with Catholic Memorial and Arrowhead. They’ve got three nonconference games on the schedule this week against Madison La Follette, Westosha Central and Madison West.

7. Kenosha Tremper

Last week: 6

The Trojans are 13-3 this spring after going 2-1 last week. They split two games with Kenosha Bradford and beat Racine Case. They are in great position to win the Southeastern Conference, with a sizable lead and only four conference games remaining. They’ll face Racine Park, Kenosha Bradford, Racine Horlick and No. 4 Arrowhead this week.

6. Burlington

Last week: 10

The Demons went 4-1 last week to extend their record to 15-2 this season. Their only loss came at the hands of No. 3 Janesville Craig in non-conference play. Prior to that loss, they had won 13 games in a row. They currently hold a three game lead over both Waterford and Wilmot in the Southern Lakes Conference with three games to go. If they beat Wilmot this Monday, it’ll knock the Panthers out of the title hunt. If they beat Waterford in either of their two games this week, the Demons will repeat as conference champions.

5. Sun Prairie

Last week: 4

The Cardinals are 15-5 this season following a 2-1 week. They beat Beloit Memorial and Bay Port, but lost to No. 4 Arrowhead in the championship game of the Sun Prairie tournament. The Cards are a game back of No. 3 Janesville Craig in the Big Eight standings, and they have five games left to close the gap. They play Janesville Parker, Madison Memorial and Madison West this week.

4. Arrowhead

Last week: 5

The Warhawks went 2-1 last week, losing to Waterford (honorable mention this week) but responding with wins over Kenosha Indian Trail and No. 5 Sun Prairie. Their record is 14-3 this spring, and they are a half game behind Catholic Memorial in the Wisconsin Little Ten standings. They have five games scheduled for this week: Wisconsin Lutheran (twice), Milwaukee Riverside, Middleton and No. 7 Kenosha Tremper.

3. Janesville Craig

Last week: 3

The Cougars went 5-0 last week, capped off by a win over No. 6 Burlington on Saturday. They are 18-2 this season and closing in on their third consecutive Big Eight Conference title. They’ve got two games on the schedule this week: Beloit Memorial on Tuesday and Madison Memorial on Thursday. They’re one game ahead of Sun Prairie in the conference standings with four games left to play.

2. Green Bay Preble

Last week: 1

Preble stayed undefeated this season at 19-0 after going 4-0 last week. The Hornets swept two games from Bay Port and also beat Sheboygan South and Manitowoc Lincoln. The Fox River Classic Conference title is nearly theirs, and if our math is correct they can clinch the championship with one more conference win. They face Marinette in non-conference play on Monday before taking on Sheboygan North on Tuesday and Thursday and Pulaski on Saturday.

1. Eau Claire North

Last week: 2

The Huskies jump into the top spot this week following three impressive wins over ranked teams last week. They swept two games from Chippewa Falls (ranked No. 13 at the time), and beat No. 11 Wausau West over the weekend. North is now 15-1 this spring, but is 15-0 in Wisconsin. The schedule doesn’t get any easier this week, with two games apiece against No. 12 Eau Claire Memorial and La Crosse Central (honorable mention this week). They would clinch the Big Rivers Conference title with one win over Memorial.
