Last week: 14

The Spartans won both of their games last week to run their record to 13-1 this year. They swept Oconto Falls, 6-0 and 8-7 in a two game series. They have a tough stretch of games this week. They’ll face defending Division 2 state champion Waupaca (6-3) on Monday and Tuesday, and Denmark (5-6) in a doubleheader on Saturday.

13. Chippewa Falls

Last week: Honorable mention

The Cardinals climb into the top 15 on the back of a two-game sweep of Eau Claire Memorial last week. They’re now 10-1 this spring, and are posted near the top of the Big Rivers Conference standings. Xavier commit Trevor Olson struck out seven in four innings of scoreless work against Memorial. They will only face non-conference foes this week. They’ve got a good Tomah (8-3) team on Tuesday, and a doubleheader against Marshfield on Saturday.

12. Kenosha Indian Trail

Last week: 4

The Hawks are a modest 4-4 this season after dropping two games to No. 4 Kenosha Tremper last week. They are a talented team, and that should help Indian Trail get back to its winning ways. They have one game against Racine Park and two against Racine Horlick this week.

11. Burlington

Last week: 13

The Demons are 7-1 this season after winning three games last week. The defending state champions have won six in a row, and during that span they’ve scored five runs or more in each game. They’ll face their toughest test of the year to date when they play No. 4 Kenosha Tremper on Monday. They’re scheduled to play games on five days this week. Union Grove, Kenosha Bradford and Badger are among their opponents.

10. Kimberly

Last week: 11

The Papermakers are 7-4 this spring, but 6-2 against teams from Wisconsin. They beat two good conference foes in Fond du Lac and Hortonville (honorable mention this week) during the week, and split a doubleheader with No. 5 Sun Prairie on Saturday. It’s back to conference play this week for Kimberly, who will face Neenah, Appleton North and Appleton West.

9. Beloit Turner

Last week: 9

The Trojans remain our top-ranked team in Division 2 after going 2-0 last week. They beat Palmyra-Eagle twice to make their record 13-1 this spring. They’ve scored six runs or more in each of their last four games. They have another light week of action ahead of them, with two games scheduled against Parkview.

8. Wausau West

Last week: 8

The Warriors won four games last week to push their record to 7-0 in Wisconsin. They beat Wisconsin Rapids, Merrill, Menomonie and Pulaski during a busy stretch of the season. They’ve got three conference games scheduled for this week. They play Stevens Point on Monday and a two game series with D.C. Everest later in the week.

7. Arrowhead

Last week: 6

The Warhawks are 10-2 on the season after a 3-1 week. They split two games with No. 15 Watertown and swept Slinger handily in a doubleheader. Arrowhead outscored the Owls 31-3 on Saturday. They have a light workload this week, with only two games against Milwaukee Lutheran on the schedule.

6. Oconomowoc

Last week: 7

The Raccoons went a perfect 4-0 last week to improve to 11-2 overall this season. They swept Hartford during the week and Milwaukee Lutheran over the weekend. They’re locked in a battle atop the Wisconsin Little Ten with No. 7 Arrowhead and Catholic Memorial (honorable mention this week). They’ve got two conference games against Beaver Dam this week.

5. Sun Prairie

Last week: 3

The Cardinals are 10-3 this year following a 1-2 showing last week. They split a doubleheader with No. 10 Kimberly on Saturday, but lost to Verona during the week. They remain in the top five ahead of Oconomowoc due to their win over the Raccoons on April 21. They have four games this week, highlighted by a Saturday tilt against No. 2 Janesville Craig.

4. Kenosha Tremper

Last week: 15

The Trojans caused a major shakeup in the rankings when they swept two games from No. 12 Kenosha Indian Trail (ranked fourth at the time). Garrett LaBreche hit a walk-off single to beat the Hawks 1-0 (10 innings) on Tuesday, and they won 7-3 on Thursday. Tremper is 9-1 this spring, with their only loss being against a team from out of state. The Trojans are 7-0 against teams from Wisconsin. They have four games scheduled for this week, including one against No. 11 Burlington on Monday.

3. Eau Claire North

Last week: 2

The Huskies went 2-1 last week, losing their first game of the year at the hands of Burnsville (Minn.). They are 9-1 this season, with most of their wins being blowouts. They have two conference games this week against Rice Lake, as well as a non-conference game against Stillwater (Minn.).

2. Janesville Craig

Last week: 1

The Cougars took their first loss of the season in their only game last week. They were beaten by Madison West in walk-off fashion. Craig is now 11-1 this spring. They have a busy week ahead of them. On Monday they’ll play Jefferson (honorable mention this week), and on Saturday they’ve got a big game against No. 5 Sun Prairie. They also have matchups with Madison La Follette and Madison East during the week.

1. Green Bay Preble

Last week: 5

The Hornets were the only team ranked in the top five last week to not lose a game, so they ascend to the top spot this week at essentially the midpoint of the season. They went 4-0 last week to extend their overall record to 11-0. Their top-tier pitching staff, which features four college recruits, has been on full display this year. Their pitchers only surrender an average of 1.9 runs per game. Senior Jarrett Scheelk tossed a no-hitter against Sheboygan South on Tuesday. Preble has four games on the schedule this week. There’s a two game series against Green Bay Southwest on Tuesday and Thursday, and a doubleheader against Notre Dame on Saturday.
