WIAA Summer Baseball Week 5 Power Rankings

Each year during the season, we will release power rankings of the top 10 teams in Wisconsin. Our power rankings are selected by Wisconsin Baseball Central staff based on a number of factors, including record, strength of schedule, and overall team performance. Our week five power rankings are below.

10. Brookfield Central

Last week: Honorable mention

​

The Lancers went 4-2 last week, picking up some wins over ranked teams to enter the top 10 for the first time this season. They beat No. 6 Franklin and West Bend East (honorable mention, ranked No. 8 at the time), and only lost to No. 5 Menomonee Falls and No. 2 Oak Creek. They're now 17-9. Their Greater Metro Conference tournament opener is against Menomonee Falls on Monday afternoon.

9. Plymouth

Last week: Honorable mention

​The Panthers enter the top 10 with a 17-5 record. They beat New Holstein (honorable mention) on Monday, earning a season split with the Huskies. They lost their only other game of the week against Brookfield East. The week ahead will see them go up against Kohler/Christian, Kiel and Sussex Hamilton.

8. Greendale

Last week: 7

​

​The Panthers are 17-7 this summer after going 3-3 last week. They fell against No. 1 West Bend West, No. 7 Pewaukee, and Wauwatosa West. They defeated Waukesha West, Brown Deer and Tosa West (splitting the week’s series). They’ll play in the Woodland Conference tournament this week in addition to having games against Grafton and No. 6 Franklin.

7. Pewaukee

Last week: 10

​The Pirates clinched the Woodland West Conference championship with an 11-0 thumping of Greendale on Thursday. They also beat South Milwaukee and split two games with Pius XI. They have an 18-8 record now this season. They open the Woodland Conference tournament as the No. 1 seed beginning on Wednesday.

6. Franklin

Last week: 6

​

The Sabers picked up five wins last week and lost just once, making their record 18-5 this season. Their biggest win of the week was over No. 2 Oak Creek, but they also beat Woodland East Conference champion Cudahy. Their only loss of the week was against No. 10 Brookfield Central. They play South Milwaukee in nonconference action on Monday afternoon before facing Brookfield East in the Greater Metro Conference tournament later in the evening.

5. Menomonee Falls

Last week: 5

​Like most of the other teams in the top five, the Indians went 4-1 last week. Their record is 18-8 this summer after beating West Allis Central, No. 10 Brookfield Central, Wauwatosa East and New Berlin Eisenhower, but losing to Brookfield East. Their first game of the Greater Metro Conference tournament is against Brookfield Central.

4. Germantown

Last week: 4

The Warhawks are 23-5 this summer. They went 4-1 last week, beating Whitefish Bay, Port Washington and Cedarburg (twice), but losing to Homestead. They’ll close out the regular season this week with matchups with Nicolet, SWCHA and Kettle Moraine (honorable mention).

3. Marquette University

Last week: 3

​The Hilltoppers are 21-6 this season after going 4-1 last week. They beat Wauwatosa East, Sussex Hamilton, West Allis Hale and Kewaskum, but fell to Brookfield East. They earned the No. 2 seed in the Greater Metro Conference tournament and will try to beat out the likes of No. 2 Oak Creek, No. 5 Menomonee Falls and No. 6 Franklin for the title this week.

2. Oak Creek

Last week: 2

​

​The Knights went 4-1 last week, with their only loss coming against No. 6 Franklin. They beat No. 10 Brookfield Central, among others. They are now 22-3 this summer, and enter the Greater Metro Conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. They won the regular season championship, and are looking to complete the sweep with the tournament title.

1. West Bend West

Last week: 1

​

​The Spartans are closing in on a perfect regular season. With three games remaining, they’re 24-0. They picked up a couple of wins over ranked teams last week, beating No. 10 West Bend East 8-0 and No. 9 Greendale 5-1. They’ll look to enter the postseason unbeaten by beating Whitefish Bay, New Berlin West and Muskego this week.
