WIAA Summer Baseball Week 2 Power Rankings

Each Sunday during the season, we will release power rankings of the top 10 teams in Wisconsin. Our power rankings are selected by Wisconsin Baseball Central staff based on a number of factors, including record, strength of schedule, and overall team performance. Our week two power rankings are below.

10. Marquette University

Last week: Honorable mention

​

​The Hilltoppers are 8-4 this summer following a 4-1 week. They picked up wins over West Allis Central, Brookfield Central (honorable mention), Wauwatosa East and Brookfield East. In their win over Brookfield Central, Zach Nogalski went 2-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs. They have another busy week ahead of them, with games scheduled against the likes of No. 3 Franklin and No. 2 Oak Creek.

9. New Holstein

Last week: Honorable mention

The Huskies are 7-1 this year following a perfect 4-0 week. They swept Kiel and beat both Howards Grove and Plymouth (honorable mention). They outscored opponents 23-8 during the four game stretch. They have a game on Sunday evening at Fox Cities Stadium against Random Lake, as well as games this week against Cedar Grove-Belgium, Sheboygan Falls, Ozaukee and Homestead.

8. Pewaukee

Last week: 9

​The Pirates have an 8-4 record at this point in the year. They went 3-1 last week with wins over Wauwatosa West (honorable mention), Whitnall and Port Washington. They dropped a game to Kewaskum. Carl Renz tossed a no-hitter in their win over Whitnall, the second of his career. The Pirates have two games against New Berlin Eisenhower this week, as well as contests against Shorewood and No. 7 West Bend East.

7. West Bend East

Last week: Honorable mention

​The Suns enter the top 10 with a 9-3 record this season. They beat Plymouth (honorable mention) last week, and gave No. 1 West Bend West its toughest game of the year, dropping a 1-0 game to the Spartans. East has four games this week, highlighted by a matchup with No. 8 Pewaukee.

5. Germantown

Last week: 6

The Warhawks are 10-2 this summer after winning both of their games last week. They blanked Port Washington 9-0 and defeated Homestead 11-8. The pitching staff has been strong for the Warhawks this season. They’ve allowed three runs or fewer in eight of their 12 games. They have a handful of games this week, including matchups with Nicolet (honorable mention), Pius XI (honorable mention) and No. 3 Franklin.

6. Greendale

Last week: 4

​

The Panthers are 7-2 this year following a 2-2 showing last week. They dropped games against No. 2 Oak Creek and New Berlin Eisenhower, but beat Eisenhower and South Milwaukee later in the week. They’ve got games against New Berlin West, Greenfield and Homestead this week.

4. Menomonee Falls

Last week: 3

​The Indians are 7-2 this season. They dropped a game to No. 2 Oak Creek last week, but bounced back by beating West Allis Central and Brookfield Central (honorable mention). The two-time defending state champs have games against Wauwatosa East, Brookfield East, Sussex Hamilton and West Allis Hale this week.

3. Franklin

Last week: 5

​

​The Sabers went 3-0 last week, pushing their season record to 7-1. They topped West Allis Central, Brookfield Central (honorable mention) and Wauwatosa East. Kyle Lewis had five RBIs in their final two games of the week. Franklin has several games this week, highlighted by a Wednesday contest against No. 10 Marquette and a weekend wood bat tournament featuring No. 5 Germantown.

2. Oak Creek

Last week: 2

​

The Knights are unbeaten at 11-0 this summer after going 6-0 last week. They beat No. 6 Greendale last Sunday, and crushed No. 4 Menomonee Falls on Wednesday. They’ve got four games scheduled for this week. They’ve got matchups with No. 10 Marquette and Brookfield Central (honorable mention).

1. West Bend West

Last week: 1

​

​The Spartans remain undefeated at 12-0 this season. They went 5-0 last week, including wins over No. 7 West Bend East and Wauwatosa West (honorable mention). They pitched a shutout in the game against East and held Tosa West to just one run. They’ll look to stay unbeaten with games against Kewaskum, Whitefish Bay, Homestead, New Berlin Eisenhower and Mukwonago.
