Legion Baseball Week 2 Power Rankings

Every week during the season, we will post our power rankings for the top 10 American Legion baseball teams in Wisconsin. Teams are ranked regardless of what Class they are in. The top 10 is selected based on a number of factors, including record, strength of schedule, and overall team talent. Our week two power rankings are below.

Honorable Mentions

Green Bay Shockers (9-5)

Green Bay Southwest (10-6)

Waupun Post 210 (8-1)

Janesville Post 205 (7-5)

Marinette (12-7)

10. Holmen Post 284

Class: AA

Last week: Unranked

Post 284 is 10-4 this season after going 4-0 last week. They swept two games from Wausau Post 10, and also beat Onalaska Post 336 and River Falls Post 121. They’re our fourth-highest ranked Class AA team this week. They’ve got games against the La Crosse North Stars, La Crosse Post 52 and Westby this week. Then they’ll head to Merrill for tournament action over the weekend.

9. Kewaunee County

Class: AA

Last week: Honorable mention

The Lakers enter the top 10 with a 10-1 record this summer. They picked up wins over Gibraltar (1-5 this season), Wrightstown (8-6) and Ahnapee (2-2) last week. It’s a light week of action for Kewaunee County, who won’t play until Saturday due to the holiday this week.

8. Superior

Class: AA

Last week: 9

The Reds are 11-4 this summer. They went 1-1 last week, falling to Proctor (Minn.) 8-3 but beating Twin Valley (Minn.) 11-1. Justin Reinkall tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts in the win over Twin Valley. The Reds check in as our No. 2 team in Class AA this week.

7. Beaver Dam Post 146

Class: AA

Last week: Honorable mention

Post 146 is 6-2 this summer following a 4-2 showing last week. They went 3-2 at the Stevens Point Firecracker tournament. They beat No. 5 Beloit, but fell against No. 1 Oshkosh. They also dropped a game against Stevens Point, who is 7-4 this season. They have games scheduled against Stoughton and Fort Atkinson this week before a tournament in Oconomowoc.

6. De Pere

Class: AAA

Last week: 7

De Pere is 13-4 this season after going 3-0 last week. They beat Bay Port, Menasha, and Hortonville. They outscored those three opponents 19-0 in a dominant week for their pitching staff. They have another game against Bay Port this Wednesday before heading to Minnesota to play in the Gopher Classic—the largest Legion baseball tournament in the United States.

5. Beloit

Class: AAA

Last week: 5

Beloit is 9-3 this summer after going 3-2 at the Stevens Point Firecracker tournament over the weekend. They’ve got two wins over Janesville Post 205 (honorable mention) this year, but fell to both No. 1 Oshkosh and No. 7 Beaver Dam in Stevens Point. They will face Lake Geneva this week before heading to Fort Atkinson for tournament play during the weekend.

4. Eau Claire Post 53

Class: AAA

Last week: 6

Post 53 went 5-0 last week, including a 4-0 showing at the Chippewa Falls wood bat tournament over the weekend. They’re now 11-2 this summer. Their pitchers tossed two no-hitters in Chippewa Falls, which is a credit to their depth on the mound. They have several games this week, including a battle with Chippewa Falls (8-8) on the Fourth of July and a home tournament over the weekend, which some good teams will be playing in (including Green Bay Southwest, an honorable mention this week).

3. Madison Impact

Class: AAA

Last week: 2

The Impact finished as runners-up at the Rochester (Minn.) Firecracker tournament over the weekend, falling to Plover in the championship game. They’re now 10-4 this summer. They’ve reached the championship game of two consecutive tournaments, showing consistency across the board.

2. Fond du Lac Post 75

Class: AAA

Last week: 1

Post 75 is 16-1 so far this season. They lost in the semifinals at the Rochester (Minn.) Firecracker tournament to No. 3 Madison in 13 innings over the weekend. That evened the season series between the two. They’re pretty much dead even in our books at this point in the year. Since Fondy has the higher overall record, they get the higher ranking this week. They have games scheduled for this week against No. 1 Oshkosh and Hortonville.

1. Oshkosh

Class: AAA

Last week: 3

Oshkosh takes over the top spot after winning the Stevens Point Firecracker tournament last weekend. They’re 13-0 this summer and went 5-0 at the tournament, earning wins over No. 5 Beloit and No. 9 Beaver Dam along the way. They’re currently tied atop the Fox River Valley South Division with No. 2 Fond du Lac, and the two will square off on Thursday evening. Oshkosh also has league games against Neenah and Appleton DoubleDays this week.
