Kimberly batters Waunakee in quarterfinals

GRAND CHUTE - Davis Matz gave Kimberly a solid outing on the mound to help guide the Papermakers to an 11-2 win over Waunakee in the Division 1 state quarterfinals on Tuesday evening. Matz tossed a complete, giving up one earned run on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Kimblery’s bats were also scorching in this afternoon's game, as they tallied hits in six of the seven innings and finished with 14 overall. Beau Schumacher went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Connor Chitko went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Waunakee struggled to keep Kimberly off the bases all game. Ben Nordloh pitched four innings for the Warriors, giving up three earned runs and seven hits, but got little help from his defense. Waunakee committed four errors in the contest. Nate Stevens went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Dylan Haack drove in the other run for the Warriors. The Papermakers (18-8) advance to face Eau Claire North in semifinals. This is the fourth consecutive year Kimberly has reached the state semis. Waunakee finished the regular season 15-9 and were co-champions of the Badger North Conference along with Baraboo.
