GRAND CHUTE - In a game that was billed as the top two teams in the state going at it, Eau Claire North made it seem like anything but with a 9-0 win over previously undefeated Green Bay Preble in the Division 1 state quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Huskies had a huge day at the plate, scoring eight runs in the first two innings, knocking Preble pitcher Will Conard out of the game after only 1.1 innings.

Tanner Halvorson was masterful on the mound for North. He went five innings, giving up one hit, one walk and struck out seven batters.

John Bickle went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Huskies and Zac Stange went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.

Preble was only able to get one hit in the contest. Casey Roeser had the sole bright spot for the Hornets. They were only able to get two runners on base the entire afternoon.

Preble used four pitchers in the loss, but couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

Eau Claire North (22-2) advances to the semifinals to face the winner of Kimberly vs. Waunakee.

Preble finished the year with a 29-1 record and as the champion of the Fox River Classic Conference.
