Dodgers draft Holmen native Kendall

The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted a Wisconsinite in the first round of the MLB Draft for the second straight year, taking Holmen native Jeren Kendall with the 23rd pick on Monday night.

The Dodgers selected Kenosha native Gavin Lux with the 20th pick in the 2016 Draft.

Kendall was a three-year player for Vanderbilt, helping the Commodores reach the College World Series in 2015 as an outfielder. He hit .307 as a junior this year with 30 extra-base hits, 15 of which were home runs. He drove in 53 runs and stole 20 bases.

He was named the Wisconsin Player of the Year in both 2013 and 2014 at Holmen.

Later in the Draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected former Marshfield standout Daulton Varsho out of UW-Milwaukee with the 68th pick.
