RIVER FALLS, Wis.—Waterford eliminated Antigo from the Legion baseball Class AA state tournament with a commanding 9-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
Waterford was in control from the very first inning and cruised to a comfortable victory. The win booked their place in Sunday’s schedule of games.
A five run first inning gave Waterford a big cushion early. Nick Dugandzic and Chris Saltzmann both hit singles for two RBIs and Logan Schmidt had an RBI hit in the frame as well.
Antigo’s pitching set in for a while following the first. Both teams went scoreless until the fifth inning.
Waterford added four runs in the inning. Cameron Prailes, Ryan Kiedrowski and Dugandzic all had RBI singles to put the game out of reach.
Trailing 9-0 in the seventh, Antigo managed to scratch across one run via an RBI single by Ryan Brauer. However, that was all the fight that the Typhoon had left in them. Their season came to an end following the loss.
Tony Ray was dominant on the mound for Waterford. He pitched six innings of scoreless baseball in which he allowed just two hits and struck out four.
Six Waterford players had two hits in the contest. Dugandzic finished with three RBIs. A.J. Kirsch was 1-for-2 for Antigo.
Waterford (17-7) will face either Wisconsin Dells or Menasha on Sunday. If Wisconsin Dells beats Menasha on Saturday night, they will be Waterford’s opponent. If Menasha wins, they’ll play Waterford for the state title. In that case, Waterford would need two wins, while Menasha would need just one.
Antigo ended the season with a 19-7 record.
