Legion Baseball Class AAA State Tournament Preview

Eight teams will take the field in Marshfield this week with the hopes of winning the Class AAA state championship. The schedule is set, and there should be some exciting matchups throughout the week. It is a double elimination format, guaranteeing each team at least two games. The winner of the tournament will be crowned state champion and advance to the American Legion Great Lakes Regional. The state runner-up will also participate in the Great Lake Regional. The winner of the Great Lakes Regional advances to the American Legion World Series. Read on for a rundown of the state tournament field.

Neenah Post 33 enters the tournament at 13-6 and as the champion of region five. They went 3-0 in regional play to take the crown. Their only state championship was won in 1930. They will face Beloit in their first game of the tournament. Beloit is 26-5 this summer, and won region seven to get to the state tournament. They went 3-0 to win their regional, including a big win over No. 2-ranked Janesville. Beloit was ranked No. 6 in our last power rankings of the season. They have won five state championships in their history, with the latest being in 2000.

Wausau Post 10 is 17-18 this season. The Bulldogs won region two by going 3-0 in regional play. They have won three state titles in the past. They took home the Class AAA title in 1998, 2009 and 2010. Their state tournament opener will pit them against Eau Claire. Post 53 is 26-7 this summer and was ranked No. 5 in our final power rankings. They won region one by going 3-0. They defeated No. 4-ranked Chippewa Falls twice in regional play. They have won five state championships, with the latest coming in 1986.

De Pere is 21-8 this summer and won region three to get to Marshfield. After dropping their regional opener, they won four straight games to win the title. This is their third consecutive appearance at the state tournament. They have four state titles to their name. They won the Class AAA championship in 1999, 2003, 2004 and 2008. They were ranked No. 8 in our latest power rankings. Their first opponent in Marshfield will be the Madison Impact. Madison is 28-3 this season. They went 3-0 in regional play to win region six. Madison has three state titles in its history. They won it all way back in 1967, and more recently claimed titles in 2012 and 2015. This is their fifth consecutive appearance at the state tournament. They were the top-ranked team in the state in our last power rankings.

Sheboygan Post 83 is 19-18 this season. They won region four with a 3-0 showing in regional play. Sheboygan has never won a state championship, so they’re seeking history this week. Their first opponent at the tournament will be Marshfield. The Blue Devils qualified for the state tournament as the hosts. They are 22-7 this summer. Like Sheboygan, they have never won a state championship. However, they did finish as runner-up in 2014 and participate in the American Legion Great Lakes Regional. They were ranked No. 3 in our final power rankings of the year.
