Menomonee Falls Blanks New Holstein
Menomonee Falls moved on to the state championship game for the second consecutive summer with a 6-0 win over New Holstein in the semifinals on Friday.
The No. 6-ranked Indians came into the tilt as the favorites over the unranked Huskies, and they lived up to the billing.
Falls got on top early and never looked back. After Zach Kornburger led off the game with a double, Ty Weber drove him in with a double of his own to make the score 1-0.
The Indians added three more runs in the fourth inning. Weber tallied two more RBIs with another single and crafty shortstop Nick Gile hit an RBI double to push the lead to 4-0.
Ryan Piontek singled in a run for Falls in the fifth and gave his team a 5-0 cushion.
New Holstein's best chance came in the bottom of the fifth. Two singles by Nick Andrew and Bryce Karrels put two men on with two outs, but the Huskies were unable to take advantage.
The Indians added another insurance run in the seventh via an RBI single by Kornburger, but they already had more than enough offense for pitcher Logan Roble.
Roble tossed a complete game four-hitter for Falls. He pitched with efficiency all game long. Justin Weber took the loss for the Huskies after allowing four runs in 3.2 innings.
Ty Weber paced the Falls attack with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate. Andrew was one of the lone bright spots in the Huskies' lineup. He went 2-for-3.
The win booked a matchup against Marquette in the state championship for Menomonee Falls.
