2016 All-State Tournament Team

The 2016 spring baseball state tournament is all wrapped up. Burlington, Waupaca, St. Mary Catholic and Ithaca were crowned state champions to end the year. The state tournament saw many fantastic performances, but some players stood out above the rest. Here is the Wisconsin Baseball Central All-Tournament team.
Catcher: Jeff Holtz, Arrowhead
Holtz went 4-for-9 with 5 RBIs for the Division 1 runners-up at the tournament. He hit two doubles, including one in the state championship game. He hit the ball hard in almost every at-bat.
IF: Dale Damon, Burlington
Damon had a tournament to remember for the Demons. He went 6-for-10 with 5 RBIs. With his team trailing by two runs in the top of the seventh in the championship game, he knocked a clutch 2 RBI single to tie the game.
IF: Ryan Dougherty, Green Bay Preble
The Hornets’ third baseman was 4-for-7 in two games at the state tournament. He went 3-for-4 to help Preble beat Middleton in the quarterfinals, and he had one of the team’s three hits in the semifinals.
IF: Noah Weinke, Rib Lake
Weinke was 4-for-6 with two RBIs for the Division 4 runners-up. He hit an RBI triple in the semifinals against Pepin/Alma. He also tossed a complete game shutout on the mound in the semifinals.
IF: Cal Tully, Burlington
Tully was 6-for-11 with 5 RBIs for the Demons in three games at the tournament. He went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the state title game. He also pitched excellently in relief to help his team win a state championship.
OF: Tyler Nelson, St. Mary Catholic
Nelson was the top hitter in the Zephyr lineup at the tournament. He went 5-for-7 with an incredible 7 stolen bases in two games. He was nearly impossible to be stopped, and had a big impact on both the semifinals and Division 3 state championship game.
OF: Zach Campbell, Burlington
The Demons’ centerfielder went 5-for-12 at the tournament from the leadoff position. He went 2-for-4 in both the quarterfinals and championship game. He also got a save in the state championship game on the mound.
OF: Joey Clary, Ithaca
Clary was 4-for-8 at the state tournament with 2 RBIs. He went 3-for-5 with two doubles in the Division 4 title game to help his team to victory.
P: Nick Winter, Milwaukee Lutheran
Winter put in a historic performance in the Division 2 semifinals. He tossed a complete game three-hitter with 15 strikeouts. His strikeout tally was tied for the fourth most Ks ever in a Division 2 state tournament game.
P: Jason Ellie, Waupaca
Ellie’s outing in the Division 2 semifinals lifted the Comets to the state championship game. He threw a complete game and allowed just two earned runs while striking out 11.
P: Nathan Brown, Arrowhead
Brown was dominant in the Division 1 semifinals for the Warhawks. He pitched a complete game and allowed one run (which was unearned) and struck out 10 against a very good Kimberly lineup.
P: Chas Sagedahl, Prairie du Chien
Sagedahl practically defeated Markesan singlehandedly in the Division 3 semifinals. In a complete game effort, he allowed no earned runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts.
P: Mack Blashka, St. Mary Catholic
Blashka’s dominance on the mound gave the Zephyrs a state championship. In the title game, he tossed a complete game three-hitter with only one run allowed and six strikeouts. It came against a very powerful Prairie du Chien offense.
