GRAND CHUTE, Wis.--The final day of the state tournament started with an offensive showcase by Ithaca. They defeated Rib Lake 10-4 in the Division 4 state championship game to win their first ever baseball state title.
Ithaca gained an early lead but quickly lost it the following inning giving four runs to Rib Lake. Despite giving up several runs, they fought back in 4th and put up a five spot. They smacked seven consecutive hits, and several players tallied RBIs. Joey Clary highlighted the inning with an RBI double.
Rib Lake had the early lead but wasn’t able to maintain it as pitching was hard to come by. Jerod Arkola started out well on the mound but quickly struggled to find the zone and left in the 4th inning and took the loss. His defense struggled behind him which was part of the reason he left early.
Clary was the top hitter for Ithaca as he went 3-for-5 with one RBI and scored three runs. Jacob Huebsch swung a hot bat for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Ithaca has made state trips in each of the last three years and finally was able to get the job done in Appleton.
