Burlington Rides Hot Bats to Championship Game

GRAND CHUTE, Wis.--An offensive onslaught by Burlington carried the Demons to a 9-0 win over Green Bay Preble in the state semifinals and a berth in the state championship game.

Burlington played a tier above the Hornets in all facets of the game, which made for a comfortable win.

The Demons tallied 13 hits in the game, and it all started in the top of the first. Dale Damon, Cal Tully and Aaron Sturdevant all had RBIs in the the three run inning.

Their bats quieted down for a while, but they were awoken again in the fifth inning. The Demons bashed seven hits and scored six runs in the frame to put the game out of reach. Damon, Sturdevant and Tully all had RBIs again, along with Tanner Strommen and Bryan Sturdevant.

Preble mustered just three hits in the contest. Aaron Mutter pitched four innings for the Demons and allowed no runs on one hit. Coach Scott Staude pulled him so he had innings remaining for the state championship game on Thursday.

Bryan Sturdevant finished 3-for-4 for Burlington, while Damon and Aaron Sturdevant both had two hits apiece.

Burlington will play either Arrowhead or Kimberly in the state title game on Thursday night.
