Burlington Rallies to Defeat Janesville Craig

GRAND CHUTE, Wis.--Burlington overcame an early three run deficit to defeat defending state champion Janesville Craig 5-3 in the state quarterfinals on Tuesday.
The Cougars burst out of the gates with a three run first inning, but that was all th eoffense they could muster against Burlington pitcher Jacob Lindemann. Jacob Campbell and Luke Malmanger tallied RBIs in the frame.
After that, it was all Burlington. A double by Cal Tully in the top of the second got the Demons on the board, and they plated three runs in the third to take a lead they would not relinquish. Aaron Mutter hit a 2 RBI single and Dale Damon knocked in one run with a single as well.
The Demons scored their final run in the sixth, when Janesville Craig pitcher Jared Filter misplayed a sacrifice bunt to allow a run to score.
Lindemann overcame his rough start to throw a complete game with six strikeouts. Evan Spry was the losing pitcher for Janesville Craig. He pitched three innings and allowed four runs.
The win put the Demons into the state semifinals for the first time since 1991. They'll face Green Bay Preble in the first game of the night session. The Hornets are making their debut in the semifinals.
