GRAND CHUTE, Wis.--Arrowhead edged Kimberly in a hard fought Division 1 state semifinal game on Tuesday night, 2-1.
The Warhawks got clutch performances from catcher Jeff Holtz and pitcher Nate Brown. Holtz drove in both runs at the plate, and Brown tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
Holtz had RBI singles in both the third and fifth innings for Arrowhead.
Drew Johnson drove in a run for Kimberly in the sixth inning, and the Papermakers got the go-ahead run on base in the seventh inning, but came up short. That meant a third straight season ended in heartbreak at the state tournament for the Papermakers.
Kimberly's Danny VandenBoom pitched a solid game, but ultimately didn't get enough run support from his offense to snatch a win. Brown made sure that two runs was all he needed to get the victory.
Holtz and Tanner Williams both tallied two hits for Arrowhead.
The Warhawks advance to face Burlington in the Division 1 state championship game at approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday.
