GRAND CHUTE, Wis.--Arrowhead locked up a spot in the Division 1 state semifinals with a 6-1 win over Sun Prairie in the last quarterfinal of the day on Tuesday.
The Warhawks played a well-rounded game, but Ryan Schmitt's performance on the mound stood out as a game changer. The senior allowed the Cardinals to score just one run with four hits in a complete game performance.
The Cardinals scored their run in the top of the second, thanks to an RBI double by JP Curran. The offense stopped there, though.
Arrowhead did most of their scoring in the bottom of the second. Jeff Holtz hit a bases-clearing, 3 RBI double and Dom Clementi and Schmitt both added RBIs as well.
Sun Prairie got runners on second and third in the sixth inning, but Schmitt induced a fly out to escape the danger.
Nick Bastien added another run for Arrowhead in the sixth after doubling and scoring on a wild pitch.
Schmitt finished with seven strikeouts and just one walk for Arrowhead. Ben Hauser took the loss for Sun Prairie. He allowed five earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
Jack Becker had two hits for Arrowhead, while Walker Jenkins went 1-for-2 for the Cardinals.
Arrowhead will face Kimberly in the semifinals, to be played after the conclusion of the game between Green Bay Preble and Burlington.
