Marathon Advances to Regional Final
In a regional semifinal matchup on Tuesday, No. 14 ranked Marathon beat Edgar 10-0 in five innings.
Edgar came in as the five seed after upsetting Abbotsford 10-4 in the previous round. The Red Raiders were the top seed in the regional.
The Red Raiders had two things going for them that propelled them to a victory, and those were offense and pitching.
They took an early lead on a Karter Underwood 2 RBI double to left-center. He would have more hitting yet to come later in the game.
Marathon was only held scoreless in the second inning, when they had one man in scoring position but stranded him there. After two innings they led 2-0.
After a Landen Williamson leadoff walk, Karter Underwood connected on an RBI double. Some errors by Edgar tallied two more runs for Marathon and extended the lead to 5-0 after three.
Pitching was the least of Marathon’s worries, as Landen Williamson threw a phenomenal game for the Red Raiders. He went all 5 innings, giving up a lone hit to Caleb Mueller in the third inning. He struck out 7 and had a lone walk that he gave up in the fifth inning.
Karter Underwood added his third RBI of the day by hitting a sacrifice fly to right field in the fourth inning and an RBI single from Hunter Schara pushed the lead to 7-0 after four innings.
Marathon got three runs in fifth inning to seal up the win, 10-0. The win advanced them to the regional finals, where they will face Stratford.
