Burlington clinched the Southern Lakes Conference title on Thursday night with a 5-2 win over rival Waterford. One of the biggest contributors to their title campaign has been infielder Aaron Mutter. The Winona State commit is batting .476 this year with 29 RBIs and four home runs. Read about both his and Burlington's season in the Q&A below.

Spencer Flaten, lead writer for Wisconsin Baseball Central: You guys at Burlington have been having a really strong season in all facets of the game. What can you say about your team and why you guys are performing so well?

Aaron Mutter: We knew in the beginning of the season we would be able to hit the ball, but I think our approaches at the plate has been why we've been successful. Something we've done more of this year is battle back in games and not give up, we have a great pitching staff so even getting a few runs can get us a win.

SF: What does a conference championship mean to you and the team?

AM: There has been a lot of good players to come out of Burlington for baseball, but only five total conference championships to show for it. Winning a conference championship would mean a lot to our team and the baseball program because we could be amongst some of the great teams that have gone through Burlington and get the first championship since 2010.

SF: You're in a particularly tough sectional for the playoffs this year, with the likes of Kenosha Indian Trail and Kenosha Tremper. What are you looking forward to about potentially facing some of these top teams?

AM: I'm looking forward to the great atmosphere the games will have and also playing against some of the best players in the state. Playing against the best will prove how special our team really is.

SF: What has been the highlight of your season so far?

AM: The highlight of my season so far is going 4-for-5 with 8 RBIs in a 25-0 win over Badger.

SF: What factors played into your decision to commit to Winona State?

AM: I was very open to any type of college. I wasn't looking for specific sizes or locations I just wanted to see myself staying there for the next four years of my life. Immediately when I stepped foot on Winona's campus I felt at home. I also really liked the coaching staff and how open they were to the recruiting process

SF: What's your favorite baseball memory?

AM: My favorite baseball memory is when I was 12 and went to regionals for the Little League World Series.

SF: Who's your favorite pro baseball player?

AM: My favorite baseball player would be Albert Pujols, ever since he was on the Cardinals I admired his power and how he can change the game with one swing.
