DC Everest, Appleton North split doubleheader

SCHOFIELD, Wis.- Appleton North traveled to play DC Everest in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Lightning defeated the Evergreens 12-1 in six innings in the first game of the day.
After struggling to score runs in their first two games of the season, the Lighting came out firing in the first two innings of play, scoring five runs.
Both Taylor Borchers and Jacob Hiltunen drove in a run on singles. Carl Valk added to the barrage of runs by hitting an RBI triple. Some errors by the Evergreens’ defense cost them two runs.
The Evergreens’ offense struggled to figure out Lightning pitcher Justin Sanders. He pitched four innings, gave up one run on two hits and struck out six batters. Evan Sankey came in to hold the Evergreens hitless over the final two innings.
The Evergreens’ only offense came from Bryce Behrens, who had an RBI double. DC Everest struggled on the mound as starter John Breske went 4 innings and gave up four earned runs on five hits with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks.
DC Everest bounced back to win the second game of the doubleheader 6-5 on a walk-off error by the Appleton North. Andrew Baranowski went 1-for-2 with two runs scored for the Evergreens in the win. Tanner Cywinski pitched three innings and picked up the win on the mound.
Appleton North moved to 2-2 this season with the split, while DC Everest is now 3-1.
