Madison Knocked Out of National Regional
The Madison Impact saw their American Legion World Series hopes dashed with a 3-2 loss to Alton on Sunday at the Great Lakes Regional.
After they beat Elgin on Friday, the Impact needed two wins on Sunday to advance to the World Series, but they ultimately came up just short in their first game of the day.
As had been the case so often in the tournament, Madison jumped out to an early lead. They scored two runs in the top of the 1st via an RBI groundout by Chad Herbst and an error by Alton.
Alton responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd with the help of some defensive miscues by Madison. In the bottom of the 6th, another Madison error allowed the go-ahead run to score for Alton.
The Impact’s offense struggled to get much going in what proved to be the final game of their season. They mustered just three hits off of Alton pitcher Jake St. Peters. Sam Lund took the loss on the mound for Madison despite not giving up any earned runs.
The Impact finished the season with a 24-9 record and as Class AAA state champions in Wisconsin.
