Menomonee Falls Wins First Ever State Championship


The Menomonee Falls Indians claimed their school's first ever state summer baseball championship with a six inning 11-0 win over Franklin in the championship game at Kapco Park.

Lukas Kell was dominant on the mound for the Indians. The lefty pitch all six innings and allowed just five hits in a shutout performance.

Falls scored three runs in both the first and second innings, and sealed the deal with five more in the sixth.

Franklin didn't do themselves any favors by playing sloppy defense all game long. They committed six errors that led to nine unearned runs.

Zach Kornburger went 3-for-3 for Falls with three runs scored to propel his team to the title. Mike Davis went 2-for-3 for Franklin.

Menomonee Falls ended the year with a 28-7 record, while Franklin went 27-8.

Semifinals:

Franklin vs. Plymouth

Franklin hammered Plymouth in the semifinals to advance to the state championship. The Sabers defeated the Panthers 11-4 in the first game of the day.

Franklin's bats simply could not be stopped in this one. They bashed out 16 hits as a team, including five triples and two doubles.

Parker Plume went 3-for-4 with two triples and and two runs scored for Franklin. Sabers shortstop Jake Gain drove in five runs and also hit two triples.

Zac Cain and Matt Olig did what they could for the Plymouth offense. Cain went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Olig was 1-for-2 with a solo home run.

Ultimately, the Panthers couldn't take advantage of the few opportunities they had against Franklin starting pitcher Joe Fortman. Fortman pitched five innings and allowed one run on six hits. Plymouth went through four pitchers, but none of them could stymie Franklin's offense.

Plymouth finished the season with a 23-7 record.

Menomonee Falls vs. Pewaukee

The Pewaukee Pirates' magical playoff run can to an end late Friday afternoon at KAPCO Park in Mequon in an 8-3 loss to eventual-statechampion Menomonee Falls.

In a match-up of two teams known for playing excellent defense, the pressure of the playing in the state tournament led to an unexpectedly sloppy game.

Junior RHP Ty Weber, a University of Illinois commit, was the difference maker in the game for Menomonee Falls. The Indians ace pitcher went 5 innings without allowing an earned run, striking out 6 and not walking a batter. But he made his biggest impact on offense, blasting a two-run triple to right-center field in the bottom of the 4th inning to break a 3-3 tie and give the Indians the lead for good.

Senior captain Matt Clark led Pewaukee offensively in his final game in a Pirate uniform, going 2-3 and getting hit by a pitch.

Pewaukee finished the year with a record of 24-11.
