Oshkosh Slugs Past Green Bay Shockers
Green Bay, WI-
Oshkosh Legion put on a hitting clinic in a 15-2 demolition of the Green Bay Shockers in nonconference action on Friday evening.
Oshkosh, ranked #4 in our Week 3 Legion Power Rankings, bashed out 19 hits and scored multiple runs in all but one inning in the five inning victory. It was a bit of a statement win for Oshkosh, as the Shockers came into the game with a 16-4 record and ranked in the honorable mentions of our Legion rankings.
Shockers starting pitcher Nick Baldschun struggled with command early in the game, and Oshkosh took full advantage. They scored three runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double by Aaron Roth.
The 2nd inning proved to be the worst for Oshkosh offensively. Despite that fact, they still scored a single run via a sacrifice fly by Alex Koch.
Oshkosh exploded for six runs in the 3rd to put the game out of reach. The inning saw a string of four Oshkosh hitters recording RBIs back-to-back. Mitch Peterson, Jordan Mueller, and Sam Hawley all had RBI singles in the frame, while Jakob Guenther hit an RBI double. When all was said and done, Oshkosh had a 10-0 lead.
Oshkosh continued to groove past the Shockers’ pitching in the 4th inning. Michael McBriar hit an RBI groundout and Koch hit an RBI single to make the score 12-0.
The Shockers finally showed some life in the bottom of the 4th, when the first three batters of the inning got on base. Dylan Van Boxel hit an RBI single and Jed McClellan drew a bases-loaded walk to close the gap back to 10 runs. However, Shockers outfielder Andy Peterik lined into a double play to strand the bases loaded.
The Oshkosh bats showed no signs of slowing down in the 5th. They utilized six hits in the inning to extend their lead to 15-2. The Shockers went quietly in the bottom of the frame to seal the win for Oshkosh.
Will Clark dominated on the mound for Oshkosh. He pitched all five innings and allowed just two hits and two earned runs while striking out eight. Baldschun went three innings for the Shockers and allowed eleven runs, seven of which were earned. Mitchell Lynch pitched the other two innings and gave up four runs on nine hits.
Eight of Oshkosh’s nine starters recorded a hit in the victory. Mueller led the way with a 3-for-4 performance with four runs scored. Koch finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Guenther went 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Van Boxel and Zach Champine were the only Shockers to get hits in the game.
