De Pere Dominates Ash Port to End Regular Season

Ashwaubenon, WI-

Top-ranked De Pere Legion slugged out a 10-2 victory over Ash Port on Thursday night to close out their regular season campaign with a 23-5 record.

Carson Jacques dominated on the mound and the De Pere bats used a steady attack to put away their opponents.

Ash Port struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning when Joe Baier belted a solo home run to left field to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, from that point on, it was all De Pere.

CJ Stathas tied the game in the top of the 2nd with an RBI single, and in the next at bat Jack Paulson shot a 3-run home run to left field to give De Pere a 4-1 lead.

Connor Rutherford scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 4th to extend De Pere’s lead to four. In the bottom of the frame, Ash Port’s Alex Stewart slugged an RBI double to make the score 5-2.

De Pere added another run in the 6th via an RBI single by Emmett Kulick. They finally opened the floodgates for good in the top of the 7th, when they bashed six hits to push across four runs and make the score 10-2. Stathas, Paulson, Kulick, and Rutherford all had RBI singles in the inning.

Ash Port didn’t have many chances to score thanks to the way that Jacques pitched for De Pere. He went all seven innings and scattered seven hits, struck out ten, and allowed just two earned runs.

Baier started on the mound for Ash Port and pitched four innings. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Connor Sullivan pitched the final three innings and also allowed four earned runs.

The De Pere offense was as good as advertised in this contest. They totaled 15 hits as a team, and had several players collect two hits or more. Stathas finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs, while Paulson was 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and Kulick went 3-for-5. Stewart finished 3-for-3 with two doubles for Ash Port, while teammate Jack Moynihan was 2-for-3.

De Pere (23-5) next plays in regional action on Wednesday against Manitowoc. Ash Port (11-8, 10-5 against Legion teams) travels to Kenosha this weekend for tournament action.
