Pewaukee Advances to Regional Finals
Pewaukee jumped out to a 6-1 lead and survived a late Wauwautosa East rally to advance to the regional finals of the WIAA summer baseball playoffs on Tuesday evening.
Senior LHP Brandon Knoke went the distance on the mound for the Pirates, allowing 8 hits and 2 earned runs. Knoke struck out 8 and walked just 1, although he did hit 3 batters. The Pirates were unusually sloppy on defense with 4 errors, but a key double play in the 7th inning helped Knoke get out of trouble.
Senior DH Steve McGowan led Pewaukee offensively, going 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Senior catcher Zach Brennan also went 2-3 and drove in a run. Senior third baseman Matt Clark was 0-1, but he was hit by 2 pitches, scored 2 runs, and executed a sacrifice bunt. Knoke, junior centerfielder Ryan Mulvey, and junior second baseman Drew Barth also had hits for Pewaukee.
The win improves the Pirates' record to 21-10 on the season. Pewaukee moves on to face the Marquette University High School Hilltoppers on Friday at 5:30 PM at MATC South Campus. Marquette advanced with an 8-7 win over Kettle Moraine on a walk-off walk in the bottom of the 7th inning.
