Ash Port Cruises Past Shockers
GREEN BAY, WI-
Ash Port staked its claim as the best Legion team in the city of Green Bay with a dominant 11-1 victory over the Green Bay Shockers on Wednesday night.
Ash Port turned to ace Turner Wittig on the mound, while the Shockers gave the ball to Mitchell Lynch.
Ash Port scored early and often in this contest. They took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning after an error allowed a run to score and Connor Sullivan hit a sacrifice fly.
Poor defense continued to be a trend for the Shockers. In the top of the 2nd, another run scored for Ash Port after the Shockers threw the ball around the infield. Quinn Pierner hit an RBI single moments later to make the score 4-0.
Lynch got the Shockers on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 2nd and cut the lead to three runs.
In the top of the 4th, Evan Bindas drew a bases-loaded walk to give Ash Port a 5-1 lead. They added two more runs in the top of the 5th thanks to another RBI single by Pierner and a sac fly by Jack Moynihan.
Ash Port continued to pile on the pressure in the 6th inning. Three more runs came across to score in the frame after three consecutive RBI singles. They scored their final run in the top of the 7th via a sac fly by Kyle Monroe.
Wittig dominated on the mound for Ash Port. He earned the victory after pitching six innings, striking out seven, and scattering four hits. Will Ark struck out the side in the 7th to end the game.
The Shockers only mustered four hits in the entire game, and their cause certainly wasn’t helped by their defense, which committed three errors.
Monroe was Ash Port’s biggest threat at the plate. He finished 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Pierner went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Zach Champine was 2-for-4 for the Shockers.
Ash Port moved to 9-3 after the win, while the Shockers fell to 11-2. Ash Port is now in 2nd place of the Fox River Valley Central Division, ahead of the Shockers by one game.
