Appleton, WI-

Milwaukee Lutheran captured their 3rd baseball state title as they defeated Notre Dame 4-3 on Thursday afternoon in the Division 2 state championship.

The Red Knights scored a run in the first two innings as TD Walker hit a sac bunt for an RBI, and then in the second inning Christian Gerner hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Notre Dame’s Connor Yakel tied the game up in the 3rd inning with a two-out single up the middle that scored two runs. The game would be tied at 2 going to the bottom of the 3rd.

Milwaukee Lutheran’s TD Walker singled to shortstop that drove in one run in the 3rd. Ryan Selner drove in the second run of the inning and the Red Knights would lead 4-2.

The Tritons chipped into the lead in the 4th inning with Ty Yewman scoring on a wild pitch but the Tritons would leave a man in scoring position to end the inning.

Notre Dame got a runner to third base in the 6th inning. They ran an attempted suicide squeeze play that Milwaukee Lutheran sniffed out as the batter failed to connect on the pitch.

They also had runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs in the 7th and Eric Erb at the plate but he struck out swinging to end the game, which meant that the Tritons would come up empty on the gold for a third straight year.

Davis Elm took the hill for the Tritons and only went 2 innings as he gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits. He walked 2 batters. Jon Zacharias came on in relief in the 3rd inning for Notre Dame and pitched the rest of the game. He gave up 1 earned run and struck out 2.

The win gave the Red Knights their first title since 2003.
