Rio Moves on to Division 4 Title Game

The first game of day 2 had plenty of scoring. As Rio defeated Spring Valley 10-5 and advance to the state final and will the play the winner of Ithaca and Rib Lake on Thursday.

Spring Valley got the early lead in the first with a Austen Mason RBI groundout and Sam Green added another on bunt single to the pitcher that drove in a run.

Rio would answer in the bottom of the inning with a single by Trajan Prochnow and Chainey Brewer hit a sac fly to tie the game at two. Rio would take the lead with a RBI single by Decker Dyle.

The scoring would continue for both teams in the second inning as Spring Valley’s Sean Borgerding singled to center to tie the game up. Rem Schneider singled to left to take the lead back.

Spring Valley would add on to the lead in the 3rd with a S. Schlegel single.

The flood gates opened for Rio in the 3rd as they scored five runs. Jacob Black would drive in a run a single and Trajan Prochnow had a double that drove in two more runs to give them an 8-5 lead. Rio would hold on to that lead the rest of the game.

Trajan Prochnow was 2-2 with 3 RBI’s and 2 walks for the Vikings, and he was a big reason Rio advanced.

Rio pitcher Trevor Kearney threw a complete game, giving up 9 hits on 4 earned runs and 5 strikeouts.
