Aquinas Handles Marathon in Division 3 Semifinals

La Crosse Aquinas defeated Marathon 11-3 as they put on an offensive showcase in the Division 3 state semifinals. They had 7 hits as a team.

The Blugolds got the offense going early on a triple from Alex Dee and a Alex Schulte sac fly to right field. Those plays both drove in runs.

They added two more in the 5th inning on errors made by the Marathon, which they totaled 5 for the game.

Marathon was able to answer on a Karter Underwood single in the bottom of the 5th. They would trail 4-1 at this point.

The floodgates opened for Aquinas in the 6th as they tallied seven runs.

Marathon was able to answer in the bottom half of the inning but only could manage two runs. Matt Braun drove in two runs with a single.

Alex Dee came on to close out the last two innings and was able to keep the game in check.

Alex Schulte pitched 5 innings, gave up 6 hits and 2 earned runs but only struck out 2 guys.

As for the Marathon starter, Ryan Gassner struggled, went 5 innings gave up 6 hits on 11 runs but only 6 were earned. He still struck out 9 guys.

Aquinas will play Lake Country Lutheran tomorrow at noon for the state title.
