APPLETON, WI-
The Kimberly Papermakers advanced to the state semifinals for the 2nd straight year with a 3-0 win over Kenosha Indian Trail in the Division 1 state quarterfinals on Tuesday morning.
The Papermakers started making things happen right from the get-go. The first pitch of the game was bobbled by Indian Trail, as was the 2nd. A run scored as a result, and Ben Carew drove in a run with an RBI single to give Kimberly a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st.
Neither offense was able to get much going until late in the game. In the top of the 7th, Griffin Hawley added an insurance run for Kimberly to make it 3-0 headed to the bottom of the frame.
Indian Trail opened up their account in the 7th with back-to-back singles to get men on 1st and 3rd with nobody out. However, they were unable to close the deal and ultimately failed to score.
Brice Swick was stellar on the mound. He pitched a complete game shutout and scattered five hits.
Kimberly will face the winner of the game between River Falls and Milwaukee Reagan in the semifinals tonight.
