Wrightstown, WI-

The top of the Olympian conference was going to be decided Friday afternoon in battle of the top two teams in the conference. St. Mary Central had already defeated Wrightstown once and were looking to complete the season sweep.

The Zephyrs would take the lead early with a RBI single by Christian Jack in the first inning. They also struck again in the third, with an RBI groundout by Caleb Davidson. They would lead 2-0 after 3 innings of play. The Tigers got a runner on second in the 4th inning but were thrown out at third to end the inning.

Some fireworks flared up in the 5th inning. St. Mary’s Caleb Davidson, tagged up on shallow fly ball to right field and attempted a hook slide at home. The throw ended up taking Tiger catcher Ryan Leick up the third base line and the two collided heads on the play. Leick ended up leaving the game with a large cut on his face.

St. Mary Central would strike again in the 5th on an RBI single by Griffin Jack. Zephyrs starting pitcher Mac Blashka helped his own cause in the 6th inning with an RBI single, increasing the lead to 4-0.

The Tigers finally got the bats going in the 6th as Alan Barta smoked a double to left field, which drove in one run. Shortly after, Tyler Theunis grounded out to the shortstop to drive in a run and make the score 4-3 going to the top of the 7th.

The Zephrys added an insurance run in the 7th as Payton Jack hit an RBI single. The bullpen for the Zephyrs closed the deal in the bottom of the inning to defeat Wrightstown 5-3.

Blashka took a no-hitter into the 5th, but Barta broke it up with an RBI double. Davidson came in to pitch in the 5th and held the lead for the Zephyrs and got the save as well.
