An Early Look at the Fox River Classic Conference
The Fox River Classic Conference, based in the Green Bay area, has traditionally been dominated by Bay Port. The Pirates have won back-to-back conference titles, but are they the favorites again this year? Or will a program on the rise knock them off of their perch? Below is a preview for each team in the FRCC, in two sentences or less (in alphabetical order).
Ashwaubenon
The Jaguars lost a lot of really talented hitters, but should compete again this year. Pitching will be their strong suit.
Bay Port
With an elite pitching staff and 5 offensive starters returning, the Pirates will be one of the best teams in Wisconsin. Good luck, everyone else.
De Pere
Featuring some top tier talent, De Pere should be able to compete with the other big teams in the conference. Finishing in the top 4 or 5 is definitely doable for the Redbirds.
Green Bay East/West
The Red Devils will have their most talented team of the last 3 years or so, but it still won’t be enough to win a conference title. However, they might be able to cause an upset or two this year and finish a little higher in the standings than usual.
Green Bay Preble
The Hornets lost nearly all of their top players, so it’s tough to predict how they’ll do. New coach Andy Conard will need to rely on some new faces this year.
Green Bay Southwest
The Trojans lost a decent chunk of last year’s team to graduation, so it’ll be up to some new guys to step up. Expect them to finish somewhere in the middle of the pack.
Manitowoc
After finishing 9th in the conference last year, there’s not much expected from Manty this year. Their most notable returning contributor is pitcher Brent Landon, but others will really need to step up if the Ships are to improve on last year’s performance.
Notre Dame
Almost all starters return from last year’s state tournament team. The Tritons should compete for the conference title this season.
Pulaski
They probably won’t be a top team in the conference, but they’ll be competitive in a lot of games. Hunter Micolichek brings a lot of power to their lineup, and the Feivor twins, Spencer and Conrad, contribute at the plate and on the mound.
Sheboygan North
2014 was very disappointing for the Golden Raiders, as they finished 2-17 in conference play, good for a last place finish despite modest expectations in the preseason. This year, they have no returning players who made a huge impact last year, so it might be another long spring for North.
Sheboygan South
The Redwings could potentially play spoiler this year with 4 all-conference players back. They nearly won the FRCC last year, and will look to improve this year.
