Plover Falls Just Short of World Series

Plover's fantastic season, which saw them crowned state champions and be one of the final 16 Legion teams alive in the national playoffs, came to an end Monday afternoon.

The Black Sox lost to Midland, Michigan 8-5 in the American Legion Great Lakes Regional Final, which ended their hopes of reaching the World Series in Shelby, North Carolina.

Needing two wins to advance to the World Series, Plover jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. However, Midland showed why they were undefeated in the tournament, bouncing back to score the next 8 runs of the game to take a commanding lead. Plover managed to score 2 runs in the 7th inning to pull them within 3, but a comeback was not in the cards.

Plover would have been the first team from Wisconsin to play in the ALWS since Janesville did it in 1989.
