WIAA Summer Baseball Week 6 Power Rankings
Every Sunday during the season, we'll release power rankings of the top 10 teams in the state. Here are our Week 6 Power Rankings.
Honorable Mentions
Plymouth (18-9)
South Milwaukee (18-10)
Homestead (18-12)
New Berlin West (17-10)
Pius XI (17-12)
Waukesha North (20-10)
10. Grafton
Last week: 9

The Blackhawks are 16-8 this season and are the number six seed in their sectional, which is absolutely stacked. Grafton is the best six seed in the tournament, and they could be a dark horse to make a deep playoff run. If they can get their struggles against top teams sorted out (they’re 1-5 against top 10 teams this season), they’ll be in good shape. Their first playoff game is against Port Washington.
9. Cedarburg
Last week: Honorable mention

The Bulldogs are 19-10 this summer and received the number five seed in their sectional. Their potential road to the state tournament won’t be easy, but they’re a contender for the sectional title. They have wins over No. 8 Whitefish Bay and No. 10 Grafton this season. Their first playoff game is against Shorewood.
8. Whitefish Bay
Last week: 7

The Blue Dukes ended the regular season with an 18-11 record and earned the number four seed in their sectional, which could see them play No. 6 Menomonee Falls or No. 2 West Bend West. They are 3-5 against top 10 teams this season, with wins against No. 2 West Bend West, No. 9 Cedarburg and No. 10 Grafton. They will face Brown Deer in their first playoff game.
7. Pewaukee
Last week: 8

The Pirates concluded their regular season campaign with a 21-9 record. Carl Renz (.400 batting average, 13 extra-base hits) and Shaun Campbell (.377 batting average, 17 RBIs) have been two of the Pirates’ leading hitters this year, while Patrick Tomfohrde (4-2, 1.92 ERA) has led the team on the mound. They are the reigning sectional champions, and the experience of their state run last year should help them this postseason. They earned the number two seed in their sectional. They will open the playoffs with a game against either Waukesha West or Mukwonago.
6. Menomonee Falls
Last week: 4

The Indians are 20-10 this summer and they finished in third place in the Greater Metro Conference (behind No. 3 Marquette and No. 1 Oak Creek). As the defending state champions, they will have a target on their back entering the playoffs. Winning back-to-back titles isn’t easy, but Menomonee Falls is tough to count out. They are the number two seed in a very tough sectional. Their playoff opener will be against the winner of the game between Kewaskum and Nicolet.
5. Greendale
Last week: 6

Greendale finished the regular season with a 21-8 record and a Woodland West Conference championship. The Panthers went 3-2 last week and are now facing a tough playoff sectional. They are the number three seed, and they could potentially face No. 4 Muskego and No. 1 Oak Creek before the state tournament. Their first playoff game will be against either New Berlin West or Greenfield.
4. Muskego
Last week: 5

The Warriors ended the regular season 23-6 and as the champions of the Classic Eight Conference. They are the number two seed in their sectional, only behind No. 2 West Bend West. They are certainly good enough to make a run to the state tournament, but they’re going to have to beat some great teams to get there. Their sectional features several ranked teams, so a state run will be tough for any team in the bracket. The Warriors are 1-4 against top 10 teams this year, so they’ll need to improve on that stat to get to Mequon.
3. Marquette
Last week: 3

The Hilltoppers finished the regular season with a 23-6 record and in second place of the Greater Metro Conference standings. They dropped games to Homestead and No. 1 Oak Creek last week. They are now 3-4 against top 10 teams this summer. They earned the top seed in their sectional, and they will face either Brookfield East or Kettle Moraine in their first game of the playoffs.
2. West Bend West
Last week: 1

The Spartans closed out the regular season with a 25-3 record and a 21 game winning streak. On Friday, they picked up a big win over No. 4 Muskego that was a test that could be similar to what is ahead of them. They’re the top seed in what is probably the most difficult sectional in the playoff bracket. All of the top six seeds are ranked this week. The Spartans will play either Germantown or West Bend East in their first playoff game.
1. Oak Creek
Last week: 2

The Knights enter the postseason as the favorites to win the state championship. They are 28-2 this summer and are on a 16 game winning streak. Last week, they beat No. 3 Marquette to win the Greater Metro Conference tournament, which gave them both the regular season and postseason conference titles. They are the top seed in their sectional, and they will face the winner of the game between New Berlin Eisenhower and Cudahy in their playoff opener.
