Legion Baseball Week 4 Power Rankings
Every week during the season, we will release power rankings of the top 10 Legion teams in the state. Teams are ranked regardless of what Class they are in. Here are our week four power rankings.
Honorable Mentions
Marinette
Antigo Post 3
Kewaunee County
Waupun Post 210
Onalaska Post 336
Genoa City Redmen
Wisconsin Dells Post 187
10. Ahnapee
Last week: Honorable mention
Class: AA

The Trailblazers split a doubleheader with Kewaunee County (20-3) on Wednesday to win the Fox River Valley East Division crown. They are 18-5 heading into regionals, where they will once again have to get past Kewaunee County. If they are able to win their regional, they will be considered one of the top contenders for the Class AA state title.
9. La Crosse North Stars
Last week: 8
Class: AA

The North Stars finished the season with a 17-3 record after dropping two games last week. Due to a paperwork error, they will not be participating in a playoff regional. Therefore, they won’t have the chance to compete for a Class AA state championship this summer, and their season is over. They still end the year as one of the top AA teams in the state, though.
8. De Pere Post 230
Last week: 7
Class: AAA

De Pere ended the regular season with a 17-7 record after going 1-1 last week. They dropped a game to Ash Port, but bounced back with a win over Pulaski. They have been drawn into a difficult regional that also includes Marinette (16-8, honorable mention this week), Ash Port (10-12 with one game remaining) and a hot Appleton DoubleDays team. However, De Pere is the favorite going into the tournament.
7. Menasha Twins
Last week: 10
Class: AA

The Twins finished the regular season with a 20-3 record and a division championship. They went 5-0 last week to clinch the division crown. Now they will turn their focus toward winning a state championship after falling in the late rounds of the Class AA state tournament last summer. They are the strong favorites to win a regional that includes Hortonville (4-13), Kaukauna (8-8 with one game remaining) and New London (finished conference play with a 5-5 record).
6. Beloit Post 48
Last week: 6
Class: AAA

Post 48 finalized their regular season record at 23-5 with a 4-1 showing last week. Their only loss came against No. 2 Janesville, whom they will face in their regional opener this week. If they want to return to the Class AAA state tournament this year, they’ll need to find a way to get through Post 205. Other teams in their regional include Genoa City (16-7, honorable mention this week) and Lake Geneva.
5. Eau Claire Post 53
Last week: 2
Class: AAA

Post 53 went 4-3 last week, including a 2-2 performance at the Central Wisconsin Classic over the weekend. They finished the regular season with a 23-7 record, and they’ll host a tough regional this week with a trip to the Class AAA state tournament on the line. They’ll likely play No. 4 Chippewa Falls once or twice at the regional, and only one of them can advance to the state tournament. La Crosse Post 52 (12-11) and Hudson are also in the regional.
4. Chippewa Falls Post 77
Last week: 1
Class: AAA

Post 77 was 27-6 heading into their final game at the Central Wisconsin Classic this weekend (a score currently hasn’t been reported for their final game). Their regional will pit them against No. 5 Eau Claire, so the road to the Class AAA state tournament won’t be easy. If both Post 77 and Eau Claire win their opening game of the regional, they’ll square off in the second game.
3. Marshfield Blue Devils
Last week: 5
Class: AAA

The Blue Devils are guaranteed a spot at the Class AAA state tournament as the hosts, but they are already deserving of their place. They ended the regular season with a 21-5 record, and now they’ll have some warmup games at their regional to get ready for the state tournament. Last week, they split a doubleheader with No. 5 Eau Claire, which gave them a 2-1 record against Post 53 this summer. They clinched the Wisconsin Valley Conference championship during the week as well.
2. Janesville Post 205
Last week: 4
Class: AAA

Post 205 ended the regular season with a 25-3 record. They went 3-1 at the Central Wisconsin Classic over the weekend, which included wins over No. 4 Chippewa Falls and No. 5 Eau Claire. They last won a state championship in 1989, but they have the goods to do it this summer. They’ll have to navigate a tricky regional first, which includes No. 6 Beloit (23-5) and Genoa City (16-7). If they get through that, they have a chance to be state champions, or at the very least clinch a berth to the Great Lakes Regional tournament.
1. Madison Impact
Last week: 3
Class: AAA

The Impact reclaim the top spot in the rankings after going 7-0 in the final week of the regular season. They finished with a 25-3 record, and they have a good chance of defending last year’s Class AAA state title, which is never easy in Legion baseball. They have beaten the likes of No. 3 Marshfield, No. 4 Chippewa Falls and No. 5 Eau Claire this summer. Their regional shouldn’t prove to be much of a challenge for them. It features Hartland (2-15), Watertown (8-9), Hartford and Oconomowoc.
