2016 First Team All-Wisconsin

The 2016 spring baseball season is all wrapped up, and now it's time to review all that happened during the course of the year. Our All-Wisconsin teams have been selected, and they have some serious star power. The best of the best are represented, and they all had fantastic seasons. In this edition of the All-Wisconsin teams, you'll find the first team.

Catcher: Jeff Holtz, Arrowhead

Holtz was a sophomore phenom for the Division 1 state runner-up Arrowhead team this spring. He batted .452 with 14 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 40 RBIs. He was a hitter no pitcher wanted to face this season. He is already committed to the University of Indiana.

Infielder: Gavin Lux, Kenosha Indian Trail

Lux dominated the competition this season. He hit .524 with nine doubles, three triples, six home runs and 30 RBIs. He posted a .658 on-base percentage, and also stole 23 bases. It all culminated with his name being called in the first round of the MLB Draft. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 20th pick. He signed with the Dodgers, and has already begun his professional career.

Infielder: Aaron Mutter, Burlington

Mutter was the three-hitter for the Division 1 state champions, and for good reason. He batted .450 with 19 doubles, five home runs and 42 RBIs. He also stole six bases for the Demons. He will continue his baseball career at Winona State next year.

Infielder: Nick Sailer, Coleman

Sailer was practically unstoppable for the Cougars this year. He hit .619 from the top of the lineup with 12 doubles and four triples. He had 19 RBIs and stole 23 bases to round out his stats. He will play at Missouri Baptist University next year.

Infielder: Tyler Flamme, Wisconsin Heights

Flamme was among the state leaders in several statistical categories this season. He posted a .577 batting average with one home run and 36 RBIs. He stole 40 bases for the Vanguards. He is just a junior, so he’ll be back for his senior season next year.

Outfielder: Zach Earll, Onalaska

Onalaska’s offense was led by the hot-hitting Earll this spring. He batted .533 with nine doubles, four triples and 29 RBIs. He stole 10 bases and posted a .569 on-base percentage. He is only a junior, so he’s got another year to play for Onalaska.

Outfielder: Nick Winter, Milwaukee Lutheran

Winter’s dominant prep career was capped off with an outstanding senior season. He batted .519 this season with 12 doubles, two triples and 15 RBIs. He stole 23 bases for the Red Knights and helped lift the team to the Division 2 state championship game. He will play baseball at UW-Milwaukee next year.

Outfielder: Dominic Clementi, Arrowhead

Clementi was a table-setter for the Warhawks’ offense this year. He hit .425 with 11 doubles, 3 triples and 14 RBIs. He tallied 17 stolen bases this spring. He will continue his baseball career at the University of Michigan next year.

Pitcher: Ryan Schmitt, Arrowhead

It was incredibly difficult to score against Schmitt this season. He went 12-0 in 64 innings with a 0.54 ERA. He struck out 85 batters, allowed 30 hits, and only walked 12. He will play at the University of Illinois next year.

Pitcher: Keaton Knueppel, Verona

Big Eight Conference hitters did not want to see Knueppel staring them down from the mound. The senior was 6-3 this season with a 1.02 ERA in 61.2 innings. His three losses can be attributed to a lack of run support, because he never allowed more than two earned runs in a game. He struck out double digit batters in seven of his 10 appearances, and finished with a total of 106 punch outs. He will continue his baseball career at Gonzaga next year.

Pitcher: Brandon Bohl, Elk Mound

Bohl was the state’s leader in strikeouts this season. He went 10-1 in 71 innings pitched with a 0.39 ERA. He finished the year with an incredible 129 strikeouts, and he only walked 17 batters. He will play baseball at Ripon College next year.
