2015 All-Wisconsin Team

The 2015 spring high school baseball season is all wrapped up, and four state champions have been crowned. There's only one order of business remaining for the year before it's all done and dusted: the All-Wisconsin Team. Many players had fantastic individual seasons this year, but these are the best of the best in the state. Players were picked based on a few factors, including stats and difficulty of opposition. Statistics carried the most weight in the selection process. Note that stats for players on state tournament teams do not count their performances at the state tournament unless stated otherwise. Read on to find out who we selected as the 2015 All-Wisconsinites.

Catcher: Rudy Rott, La Crosse Aquinas

Rott batted .606 for a state tournament team this season, but that wasn’t his only impressive stat of the year. He slugged 14 doubles, 2 triples, and a home run to go along with 24 RBIs. He drew an incredible 30 walks and only struck out twice in over 100 plate appearances. He also stole 10 bases and scored 38 runs. Rudy will play at Ohio University next year.

Infielder: Joe Baier, Bay Port

Baier batted in the 3-hole for the Pirates this spring, and went above and beyond the role of run producer for his team. He batted .475 with 7 doubles, 2 home runs (including a walk-off grand slam), and 30 RBIs for Bay Port. He also scored 15 runs of his own. Joe will play at Chicago State University next year.

Infielder: Gavin Lux, Kenosha Indian Trail

Lux was the cream of the crop for Kenosha Indian Trail this year. He batted .475 with 11 doubles, 4 triples, and 32 RBIs. He also stole 15 bases, drew 16 walks, and struck out only twice in 120 plate appearances. Lux is only a junior, so he’ll be back next year for the Hawks. He recently committed to play college baseball at Arizona State University.

Infielder: Kian O'Brien, Madison La Follette

O’Brien was the Big 8 Player of the Year this spring, which is no small feat. He earned that honor by batting .527 with 5 home runs, 25 stolen bases, and 17 RBIs. He tallied 18 extra base hits this year, which helped him maintain a .959 slugging percentage. Kian will play at Madison College next year.

Infielder: Neal Matson, Neillsville

Matson capped off an illustrious career at Neillsville this season. A varsity player for several years now, he may have had his best season yet in 2015. He hit .561 for the Warriors and helped his team win 22 games and a conference title this season. Neal will play at Cornell College next year.

Outfielder: Johnny Duranso, Arrowhead

For most of the regular season, Arrowhead was the best team in the state. Duranso was a big part of that. He hit .477 at the plate while often batting near the middle of the order for the Warhawks. Johnny is a junior, so he will be back in the fold for Arrowhead again next year.

Outfielder: Shane Coker, Athens

To say Coker posted video game numbers this year does not do his work justice. Because even in a video game, who’s going to have a .694 batting average and get on base 75% of the time? That’s what Coker did at the plate this year, in addition to knocking in 28 runs. His on base percentage of .766 is insane and sums up the type of season he had. Shane will play at the University of Akron next year.

Outfielder: Nick Winter, Milwaukee Lutheran

Winter was a big part of Milwaukee Lutheran’s state championship team this year. He batted .484 at the plate with 7 doubles, 5 triples, and 15 RBIs. Perhaps his most impressive stat came in the stolen base department: he swiped 29 bags this season. He’s just a junior, so he’ll have a chance to defend his state title next year. He is committed to play at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Pitcher: Logan Wonn, Oconomowoc

Wonn was perhaps the most dominant pitcher in Wisconsin this season. Including his state tournament start, he went 11-1 in 14 games, 13 of which were starts. He threw 10 shutouts in 97 innings pitched and struck out 119 batters. It all added up to a 0.30 ERA. At the plate, he batted .447 with 33 RBIs. Logan will play at Jacksonville University next year.

Pitcher: Riley Pelischek, Denmark

Pelischek was the Bay Conference Player of the Year this season, and for good reason. As the ace of a highly talented Denmark pitching staff, he threw 64 innings and struck out 121 batters to go along with a 9-0 record and a 0.76 ERA headed into sectionals. Next year, Riley will pitch at the University of North Dakota.

Pitcher: Jack Bredeson, Arrowhead

Arrowhead had a dominant pitching staff this year, and Bredeson was the crown jewel. In 55.2 innings, he went 9-0 and posted a 0.13 ERA. He racked up 65 strikeouts for the Warhawks as well. Jack will pitch at the University of Michigan next year.
